Probiotics are known to improve digestive health, improve heart health, reduce depression, and regulate the nervous system…But aside from the occasional kombucha or dip into kimchi; do you know where to extract the most beneficial probiotics?
Here are some foods that pack quite the probiotic punch, and are available to you at your local marketplace or health food pitstop:
Yogurt with active or live cultures. Enjoy with fruit, a drizzle of honey, or by itself.
Saurkraut: A finely shredded cabbage fermented by lactic acid bacteria. It is completely safe to eat, stores well for months, and is most typically enjoyed atop sausages. Yum!
Tempeh: This is a product made from fermented soybean, containing B12 and making a great meat substitute.
Pickles: These are basically cucumbers that have fermented in a solution of salt and water. Low in calories and an excellent source of vitamin K, these salty snacks are great in sandwiches or as a standalone delicacy. If you are minding your sodium intake; consider another probiotic source.
Are you a fan of these surprising probiotic sources?
