February is American Hearth Month!

For many years, studies showed that Americans lead the world statistically
in highest rate and risk of heart disease and issues.
To jumpstart your month (and your heart), here are a few ways you can
actively aid your own heart health during American Heart Month; and beyond.

-Exercise regularly: Getting the blood pumping not only helps with weight
management and endorphins supply; but, it keeps your blood circulating
throughout your body, helping your heart do its job well.

-Maintain a healthy diet: Certain foods can clog your heart’s arteries and
valves with cholesterol and other unwanted variables. Maintaining a balanced
rich with nutrients can keep them clear and decrease the risk of disease and /or
heart attack.

-Monitor stress levels: High cortisol levels can lead to weight gain, decrease
and devalue of sleep, and more. Your heart works overtime to help calm your
nervous system. Keeping your stress levels low makes that task much simpler.

-Screen for diabetes: People with diabetes are also more likely to have heart
disease. Getting screened regularly can help spot any issues and treat them
before they become debilitating or detrimental to your health.

-Stop smoking: Smoking increases plaque in blood vessels, putting massive
amounts of stress on your lungs and on your heart.

-Build muscle mass: Because strength training increases lean muscle mass,
it gives your cardiovascular system places to send the blood being pumped.
This results in less pressure on your arteries, which helps reduce the chances
of heart-related problems.

-Limit alcohol intake: Drinking more than the approved intake can lead to
ongoing increased heart rate, high blood pressure, weakened heart muscle, and
irregular heartbeat.

What steps will you be taking to better care for your heart health this month?
