Candida Overgrowth

Candida overgrowth, also known as yeast overgrowth, is an interesting topic because it is complex. Yeast is a naturally occurring microbe in the digestive tract. But when there is an overgrowth, yeast can wreak tons of havoc in the digestive tract. It can easily fly under the radar since the symptoms of yeast overgrowth are usually grouped under the general diagnosis of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

As mentioned above, candida/yeast is a naturally occurring microbe in our gut, and in small amounts, it is normal. However, when there is an overgrowth, you will notice feelings of being “off”. Many people who struggle with yeast overgrowth notice bloating, gas, constipation and/or diarrhea, brain fog, fatigue, forgetfulness, and low energy, to name a few.

How do you know if you have yeast overgrowth?

If you’ve noticed these exact same symptoms, getting a CSA (Comprehensive Stool Analysis) may be beneficial. This test could be done through your physician or GI specialist. A CSA takes a closer look at what is happening within your gut and may help address the root cause of your symptoms. CSA’s can also help practitioners figure out a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

Is yeast curable?

Yes! Thankfully yeast overgrowth is curable through a medical diet and supplement protocol. Both of which would be under the guidance of your physician.

How can I prevent yeast overgrowth?

  1. Reduce your intake of added and refined sugar.
  2. Eat whole foods.
  3. Limit your processed food intake.
  4. Stress reduction is helpful for overall health. Since there is a gut-brain connection, any stress reduction techniques you can employ daily will help keep your gut more balanced.
  5. Fermented foods. Load up on sauerkraut, kimchee, kefir (if you can tolerate dairy).

Where can I get a CSA?
